ParticipACTION Teen Challenge

Sometimes getting started can be the hardest part of making physical activity part of your regular routine. ParticipACTION is helping teens make the right move towards a life that includes physical activity.

The ParticipACTION Teen Challenge, sponsored by Coca-Cola Canada, works to get teens moving across the country by breaking down the barriers that prevent teens from getting active.

Physical activity should be a vital and fulfilling part of everyday life - unfortunately, only 7% of Canadian youth are active enough to meet the physical activity guidelines of 60 minutes of activity per day.

The participACTION Teen Challenge is a national program that inspires and supports Canadian teens aged 13-19 to move more. This innovative program is aimed at getting teens moving by providing funding to lo9cal organizations for things such as coaching, equipment or access to facilities. Teen Physical Activity Grants of up to $500 are available to registered community organizations to fund their own physical programs specifically for teens.

By removing barriers and providing access to the facilities, equipment, instruction or other support they need to get active, we are facilitating stronger connections to the community and fostering social interactions that help build confidence and self-esteem.

Since its launch in 2008, the ParticipACTION Teen Challenge has enabled 340,000 teens to get active in over 4,500 community organizations across Canada and has deployed $4.5 million to the sector!

Community organizations who serve teens aged 13-19 are encouraged to register online. Once approved by their provincial/territorial coordinating organization, the local community organization works with the teens to desing a program and then applies for Teen Physical Activity Grants of up to $500 to support a local program or event.

All programs must provide opportunities for teens to get active for at least 30 minutes at least once a week for four weeks.
