YELLOWKNIFE (February 3, 2016) – The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) and Sport North Federation would like to clarify recent media reports regarding a matter that is currently before the courts.

The GNWT and Sport North have a long history of successful partnerships in delivering sport programming that benefits athletes and communities across the NWT and continue to work as partnersdespite having sought resolution of this contractual dispute in the courts.

"The GNWT and Sport North are actively working together to solve this issue,” said Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs Robert C. McLeod.  “We look forward to working with the Federation on projects that will benefit all residents.”

“Sport North Federation is the largest volunteer driven organization in the NWT, we continue actively working on behalf of our members,” said Sport North President Maureen Miller.  “We have a strong relationship with the Minister and his department and we look forward to an amicable resolution.”

Due to the nature of legal proceedings and the work underway between the GNWT and Sport North to reach a resolution neither party will provide further comment.
