Judoka Brent Betsina Goes for Gold at the Canada Winter Games

February 26th (Prince George, BC) – NWT’s Brent Betsina will be competing in the Gold Medal final in the sport of Judo at the Canada Winter Games in Prince George, BC.

The 18 year old from N’dilo is competing in the over 100 kg category at the Games. Betsina defeated Newfoundland’s Matthew Templeman (10-0) in round one and beat Manitoba’s Michael Ocadchy (10-0). Both wins came by Ippon. Betsina will meet Quebec’s Kevin Gauthier for the Gold Medal later this afternoon.

Betsina has been active in the sport of judo for 8 years and contributes his success to his role model and Coach Mario Desforges.

Betsina indicated before the event that his goal was “to make new friends, have a positive attitude throughout the games, and have fun”.
